Pomegranate is a perennial, shrub-shaped, temperate climate plant with a very strong root system, multi-stemmed, highly branched, male-female and hermaphrodite flowers, large fruit, spherical, slightly flattened from the top. Pomegranate, which is rich in vitamin C, contains vitamins B1, B2 and calcium and phosphorus minerals in its structure. It blooms in June and July and is harvested from 5 to 25 October.

HICAZ POMEGRANATE

Registered by Antalya Western Mediterranean Research Institute (BATEM), it is the most popular pomegranate variety in both domestic and foreign markets. Most of Turkey’s pomegranate exports are Hejaz pomegranates. It is harvested between October 5-25, depending on the region and season. It is very suitable for storage and can be stored for 6 months under suitable conditions. Depending on the region, soil and maintenance conditions, it is economically efficient in the 3rd year at the earliest. Fruit size and weight are very large. The skin color is red, the grain color is dark red. Usare efficiency 48.91%. Dane Yield 50%. Core medium hard. Yield >41 kg/tree. The food quality is excellent. It is suitable for both table and industrial consumption. 85% of the pomegranate planted in Turkey is hicaz.

WONDERFUL POMEGRANATE

In our country, especially after the year 2000, the trial plantings of the Wonderfull genus pomegranate meet approximately 8% of the total production. The outer color of this breed, which is medium and large in size, is dark red. Its large grains and slightly tart taste are in serious demand because it is a well-known breed in the foreign market. Its storage life is shorter than that of hicaz pomegranate.
